Sigma Pi was founded on February 26, 1897, at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana. The Mu Chapter at Cornell University was founded on May 9, 1917.

The Pi Men of Mu Chapter traditionally participate numerous on-campus activities. Undergraduate brothers have held various leadership positions both on and off campus and have served as presidents of student organizations, Ithaca City councilmen, student-elected trustees, president of the student council, and president of the Interfraternity Council.

Every year, the Mu Chapter of Sigma Pi bestows the Brother of the Year award on one graduating brother who has exemplified the values of Sigma Pi and demonstrated superior leadership skills in the house and on campus throughout his four years. Recipients of this award also receive the Adolphus C. Hailstork Prize. Read more about this honor and its past recipients here.
