Bay Area Alumni/Undergraduate Event Planning
We are happy to announce a Bay Area event with Mu Chapter alumni and undergraduates. A group of 10–15 Sigma Pi undergraduates will be traveling to San Francisco and Silicon Valley Monday, May 20, through Wednesday, May 22. They are eager to meet with industry leaders and executives and to explore career and internship opportunities. We will also host an alumni/undergraduate dinner on Wednesday evening, May 22.
We are especially interested in connecting with technology-focused alumni in the following fields:
- Computer and Information Science
- Energy
- Electrical Engineering
- Venture Capital
Mu Chapter Alumni President Jarett Wait ’80 will join us and will be our dinner speaker. Jarett will share updates about the current state of Greek life across the country and at Cornell, as well as about current successes and upcoming initiatives at our beloved Mu Chapter.
We need your help to make this event first-class. We are keen to hear from you on a couple of key topics so we can plan a successful trip for the students and the Mu Chapter dinner on May 22.

R. Joe Ottinger ’80
Founder and CEO of iInnovate Leadership Network
Joe will share his experience working with over 50 tech entrepreneurs and how Sigma Pi undergraduates could connect in the greater Seattle area.
About Joe:
R. Joe Ottinger is a technology entrepreneur, angel investor, author, and thought leader in the areas of entrepreneurship and innovation. He is the founder of the iInnovate Leadership Network, a peer CEO network for tech entrepreneurs scaling their businesses. In addition, he has published two books: iInnovate: A Guide for Engaging in the Innovation Economy, and Beyond Success: Building a Personal, Financial, and Philanthropic Legacy (McGraw Hill, 2008), as well as numerous papers and articles that have appeared in Forbes, Chief Executive Magazine, The Financial Times, Worth Magazine, and Stanford Center for Social Innovation, among others. Prior to founding iInnovate, Joe had an 18-year technology career working for venture backed and established technology companies, followed by six years as a co-founder of Kotter International, where, along with Harvard Business School professor, John Kotter, he helped to grow the firm to international prominence by advising companies on how best to accelerate innovation and strategic change. Joe has an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a BA from Cornell University. He is passionate about improving companies, communities, and lives through innovation and has studied Seattle’s innovation economy with the support of the University of Washington.
Julie Choi

Julie will speak to the students about interview skills and resumes, with a particular emphasis on her new app, Pointr (click here to learn more about Pointr). Julie has visited Cornell and has previously met with Sigma Pi undergraduates.
