heritage fund

The Heritage Fund--which includes the Memorial Fund--is a perpetual fund to serve as the vehicle through which the alumni can insure the quality existence of the building on University Avenue.

The fund is perpetual in that the need for regular support does not go away. The need for funds will never be met by a one-time fund drive. Prior to the 1990s, maintenance of the house was financed by the actives. This meant that there was essentially no maintenance. The old house suffered and became so run down that it was not fit to live in.

The new house opened in 1995. The alumni leadership committed to maintaining the building as a first-class home away from home. It is a costly commitment but one that must be fulfilled.

Contributions at the fair-share level and above are recognized on brass plaques on the wall of the Memorial
Library. There are three categories.

Fair-Share Gift: $1,000 to $5,000
Founder Gift: $5,000 to $10,000
Major Gifts: $10,000 or more

Gifts are cumulative over time for recognition.

The Memorial Fund is a special part of the Heritage Fund that allows brothers to pay tribute to brothers who have died. Individual brass plaques dedicated to the memory of deceased brothers are a wonderful way to
remember and celebrate the bond of brotherhood.

The expectation is a designated gift of $5,300 or more ($300 is the cost of the plaque). The plaque can contain the name and class of the brother, his nickname, and the name of the person(s) making the gift.

The existing plaques have in several cases been the result of a brother taking the initiative to ask a group to contribute.
